Coral Gables, FL... For art lovers in Miami, an exhibition running until later this month called
A Well Dressed Mango has been a veritable who’s who of South Florida artists. Coinciding with the mango season, local artists were invited by miArte, located in Coral Gables, to interpret their vision of a well dressed mango. A theme based around award-winning book, "Miami". written in 1986 by Joan Didion, where she described a poignant scene where a room-full of well-heeled women at a charity event, gave the impression of looking like "perfectly groomed mangoes", coiffed and accessorized to the hilt.
Almost twenty years later to the day, like a self-fulfilling prophecy, a charity event will be taking place at miArte for local non-profit organization, Suited for Success. Although not everyone at the event may be as glamorous and accessorized as in Didion’s novel, the event will aim to raise awareness of the organization’s success in helping empower men and women by providing professional and elegant clothing. In the vein of perfectly groomed mangoes, Suited for Success turns out well-dressed men and women as they rebuild their lives and re-enter the workforce.
As well as providing clothing and accessories, Suited for Success has opened the door for more than 11,000 men and women throughout South Florida by providing job training skills, employment programs, educational programs and health and wellness programs. For over ten years, the organization has helped to build and rebuild self-esteem and confidence, and create opportunities for thousands of less-privileged individuals to compete and succeed in the workplace.
The Suited for Success charity event takes place on Wednesday,August 23 at miArte Gallery located at 85 Merrick Way in Coral Gables, at 6:00 pm. A cocktail reception is provided, with a suggested donation of $20. A portion of the proceeds from artwork sales and donations will go towards promoting gainful employment, self-sufficiency, health and welfare of low-income women, men, and teens in Miami-Dade County, through Suited for Success’ employment and job skills training programs.
